JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL LEDGER ACCOUNTANT
General Summary
Applies the principles of accounting within an assigned area of accounting or group of funds. Compiles financial information, processes journal entries into various accounts, and reconciles reports and financial data. Possesses some knowledge of the Heinz Center’s accounting system.
Essential Job Functions:
- Reports directly to the Director of Finance and Administration.
- Processes accounts payable, maintaining accurate files and contacts with vendors, maintaining vendor W-9 tax information and preparation of tax forms 1099 for consultants at year end.
- Perform all payroll functions.
- Preparation of timesheet allocation schedules, payroll schedules and entry into the general ledger.
- Assist the Director of Finance and Administration with monthly and year-end close procedures.
- Perform cash receipts and accounts receivable entry into general ledger.
- Perform bank reconciliations on a monthly basis.
- Maintain fixed asset schedule and enter monthly depreciation expense.
- Assist in tracking federal grants
- Maintain contract files and tracking system
- Knowledge of filing quarterly federal reports, such as, SF-272 and SF-269
- Preparation of audit schedules as requested by the Director of Finance and Administration.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with 3-5 years experience. Proficiency in accounting software (MIP/Fund accounting preferred), Excel, and Word required. Detail oriented with excellent organization and coordination skills. Strong written and verbal skills. Some knowledge of working in a nonprofit environment. Must have initiative and work well independently.
